Morobe Street Children’s Centre

This council-operated childcare centre is at 229 Oriel Road, Heidelberg West. Its programs respond to children’s development and interests while considering the cultures and values of their families. Enrolment starts with an application to the council waitlist, and submitting an application does not guarantee a place.

St Hellier Street Children’s Centre

Located at 95 St Hellier Street in Heidelberg Heights, the council-run centre provides programs shaped around children’s interests and development, along with family cultures and values. Families need to submit a council waitlist application and should check placement availability directly.

Jets Studio

Young people can develop skills in music, events, visual art and multimedia through this Bundoora creative arts facility operated by Banyule Youth Services. Entry, activity spaces and amenities are accessible to wheelchair and mobility-aid users. Community groups may also book rooms and multimedia resources, although fees can apply.

Banyule Maternal and Child Health

Families with children from birth to school age can access this free council service for health and development assessments, parenting education, breastfeeding support and child-safety information. Centre consultations are offered from birth until three-and-a-half years, with telehealth used where suitable. First-time parents are invited to a six-week new parents’ group, while families experiencing significant parenting challenges may be offered enhanced support.

Association for Children with Disability Support Line

Victorian families raising a child aged up to 18 with disability or developmental delay can use this free statewide telephone advocacy service. Staff help parents and carers understand rights and prepare for conversations with childcare providers, schools or the NDIS. Interpreters can be arranged. A health, welfare, education or community worker must make the referral. BANSIC – Banyule Support and Information Centre

This independent Heidelberg West organisation provides emergency relief and information support. To qualify for emergency relief, a person must hold a current Health Care Card showing an address in postcode 3079, 3081, 3084 or 3085 and complete an interview so their needs can be assessed. Some assistance is appointment-only. The Foodhub may be available regardless of where a person lives.

❤ Family violence and adolescent support

The Orange Door

Families in North Eastern Melbourne can approach this free Victorian Government access point for women’s and children’s family violence services, child and family services, Aboriginal services and men’s family violence services. Its Heidelberg site is at 56 Burgundy Street. No referral is required, and people can make contact by phone, email or in person during business hours.

The Wattle Project

Berry Street provides this free therapeutic program for Banyule families with a young person aged 12 to 17 who is using violence at home. Clinicians work with adolescents and their families, including through visits, and some families facing additional risks receive priority.
